Some People would Try Anything

Girlfriend bats away baseball game marriage proposal

First rule of public proposals: be certain your partner wants to marry you. Unfortunately for this man in Connecticut, he only found out his girlfriend's true feelings at the same time as a stadium full of onlookers.

Baseball fans unexpectedly witnessed a painfully awkward moment at the New Britain Rock Cats minor league game in Connecticut last week.
The announcer brought a couple onto the pitch and told the crowd that David had a question to ask his girlfriend Jessica.
"Will you marry me Jessica?" David asks, getting down on one knee.
Anticipating a romantic moment, the crowds starts to cheer - until they see that Jessica isn't exactly looking elated.
"David, I'm sorry, I can't," she says before running off.
The awkward moment is compounded when the announcer starts laughing.
"Sorry, I don't mean to laugh. David, I don't think we've ever had this happen before," he tells the crest-fallen boyfriend.
The public rejection appears too much for David who then follows his girlfriend in running off the pitch.
Let's hope that the next marriage proposal at the New Britain Rock Cats stadium has a happier ending.
